Are we going to have a huge extra expense in getting all the recommended texts bought in?
Solution:
Each objective suggests two different texts – in most instances one is provided in the books (an original letter extract, poem, web page) and one needs to be sourced. The latter are mostly well-known texts, which were specifically selected because most schools would have them ('Three Billy Goats Gruff', Anne Fine titles, poems that can be found in a number of anthologies). Therefore, it is likely that with the texts we have provided and your school's bank of existing books, you will already have most of the resources required. In sections such as ‘Political Literacy’ and ‘Social Justice’ the texts may be more unusual and need sourcing. To view a list of all the required texts click here: ISBNs and publishers’ details.
Problem:
How can we find any texts we don't already have in school – without too much effort?
Solution:
Many schools find ordering through Amazon (www.amazon.co.uk) is the quickest and easiest route – and often secondhand options are available at discounted prices. Alternatively, you can use a third party to source the titles on your behalf, such as a school book supplier – Heath Educational Books (www.heathbooks.co.uk). A third option is to take the ISBNs and publisher details to a large bookstore, who will be able to purchase all the books on your behalf. Problem:
Some of the texts listed are coming up as being ‘Out of Print’. What can we do?
Solution:
We updated Telling Tales in 2008, rewriting all the lessons where publishers of recommended texts had put titles out of print. We have selected texts that are popular and readily available to schools at the time of publication. Sadly, it is out of our control if some of these texts become unavailable in the future. If you are a customer of Telling Tales and you purchased books from this series before 2008, you can access the updated lessons in the free Download area of this website.
