A Student's Book, a Teacher's Book and a Resources CD-ROM for each Year Group (7–9).
Problem:
What is the difference between the Book-based Resources and the new VLE Packs?
Solution:
The content and coverage are the same. The VLE Packs provide all the content in a digital format – ideal for schools that do not want to use books in ICT lessons. There are some additional features included on the VLE Packs such as interactive unit openers and Flash walkthroughs of ICT skills, with audio commentaries – all of which maximise the potential of delivering the content within a VLE.
Problem:
Do I need to purchase all three items for each year group?
Solution:
It is entirely up to you. The lesson plans in the Teacher's Books support the Student's Book activities and are designed to be used in conjunction with each other. The Resource CD-ROM provides ready-to-use materials to support each lesson – saving lots of preparation time. Purchased together the resources provide everything you need to deliver engaging lessons in a straightforward way – including lots of support for non-specialists.
Problem:
How do the resources support the new ICT Framework?
Solution:
The Smart ICT Skills Builder series delivers the requirements of the new ICT Framework across Key Stage 3 – using enaging topics to bring lessons to life. The Teacher's Books provide very clear mapping to the Key processes and substrands from the new ICT Framework for each lesson. Mapping to the APP links and Functional Skills are also provided for each lesson on our website – making it easy to slot these resources into existing teaching plans.
Problem:
Are the Smart Skills Builder Resources meant to be used as a whole scheme across a year?
Solution:
It is entirely up to you. Detailed lesson plans provide fully developed lessons so you can use them ‘off the shelf’. Alternatively, the books can be used to ‘pick and mix’ activities or whole units to fit in with your existing schemes of work.
Problem:
Can the books be used with different year groups?
Solution:
Most of the activities would be suitable to use across Key Stage 3, depending on the ability of your students. However, lesson plans in the Teacher’s Books specifically address the Framework Objectives for the given year group, so lessons may need to be reworked to a certain extent to address the relevant objectives for other year groups.
Problem:
How long are the lessons intended to be?
Solution:
The lessons are designed to take one hour, but may take longer depending on the needs of your students.
Problem:
Can I put the contents of the Resource CD-ROM onto my network or VLE?
Solution:
Yes. The files on the Resource CD-ROM can be shared with your students on a VLE or on your network. Please note that the Resource CD-ROM is a teacher's resource – and you should not make the content available to students, as there is some content (for example, Model Answers) that you may not want students to have access to.
